

Currently I’ve been exploring abstract painting a lot more, and if I had to pick one word to describe what I do it’d be “relationships”. I don’t have one super specific outlook, however, in the end there is a link between all of these elements. Kaylee: I would say my art encompasses a pretty vast terrain of ideas from infantile imagery to spatial Andromeda. I let my odd imagination, vibrant colors, and crazy line work flourish in my oil paintings. Describe your art.Ĭrystal: Recently my work has been focused on the story telling of experiences, including my own as well as the stories I have heard from others that took place in the neighborhood I grew up in. The mural that Kaylee and the youth group painted, titled Bienvenidos al Westside (Welcome to the Westside), depicts the rich culture of San Antonio's Mexican-American community customs, dreams, and admired places. For the internship, Kaylee was given the task to lead a group of youth from local organizations to paint a 300-foot mural on Guadalupe Street. Not long ago, Kaylee had the privilege to participate in a summer internship for the San Anto Cultural Arts. One notorious thing to mention about Kaylee is the involvement and impact that she has accomplished in the San Antonio community. Crystal and Kaylee have several things in common: both are art majors concetrating in painting, both currently show in local galleries while simultaneously working on their teaching certifications, and both are upcoming artists that have already begun to make a great impact in the art community. Coincidently, these two noticeably happy, optimistic, and multi-talented students are Crystal Arias and Kaylee Diaz. "If you are walking through the hallways of the Art Building, chances are you will happen to see two particular students, always cheerful and in good spirits.
